FAQ
Where can I play Typehyped?
The free demo runs in any browser. Play it here. The full version is coming to Steam, and to iOS and Android. It is not out yet: what you can play today is the demo.
Is it free? Do I need to download anything?
The demo is free, and there is nothing to download: no account, no install, no plugin. It runs in the browser tab. The full version will be a paid game.
When will the full version be available?
Fall 2026. Leave your email and you will hear the moment it lands. That is the only thing it is ever used for.
How long does a full playthrough take?
About two hours. Individual sessions are short, 20 to 30 seconds each, and a run is what they add up to. The full version is still under development, so its length is not settled yet.
What is a typing incremental?
An incremental game is one where you earn a currency, spend it on permanent upgrades, and come back stronger than you left. In Typehyped you earn by clearing words. Via the skill tree you can make words more valuable, get more of them, clear them faster, and unlock lots of other powerful and strange effects.
Will Typehyped help me type faster?
Typehyped was designed to be the most fun possible version of a typing game, not a typing course. That said: you will type around 6,000 characters over a run, roughly a thousand words, and everything in the game encourages you to do it quickly and accurately. My own experience after playtesting it is that my fingers glide over the keyboard faster and more effortlessly than they used to.
Do I need to know touch typing to play?
No. Typing speed is rewarded, but strategic play is rewarded more. Touch typing will help you perform better inside a session, though it is not necessary for a fun playthrough: which skills you buy, and in what order, earns you far more money than raw speed does.
Is this game for adults or for children?
It was made for adults, and it can be enjoyed by children, though it is quite stimulating, and it asks for some strategic planning.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes, and extra care was taken to make it work smoothly there. Instead of a physical keyboard you use your phone's own. It is quite a unique thing, playing a typing game on a phone, but it is just as fun and it increases your phone typing speed all the same. Dedicated iOS and Android versions are planned for the full release.
Does my progress save?
Yes, in your own browser. There is no account and nothing is uploaded, which has one consequence worth knowing: clearing your browser data for this site deletes your run permanently, and nobody can restore it. See the privacy page for the details.
Is Typehyped accessible?
As far as it can be, given that the whole game is played by typing. It works with a physical keyboard or a phone's on-screen one, and it honours your system's reduced-motion setting. Turn that on and the animations throughout the game stop. If something is standing between you and playing it, I would genuinely like to hear about it.
Why did you make this game?
I enjoyed learning touch typing a great deal, and I enjoy incremental games. One day I wondered whether there were any good typing incrementals, and I was surprised to find none at all. That day I decided to make one myself.
